Two stories from different sides of the Atlantic Ocean provide a sobering reminder that, unless we all stand up for our rights, naked repression of natural healthcare will soon become the ‘new normal’, wherever you are. Are you with us?
The North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition has accused local blogger, Steve Cooksey, of providing diabetic information without a license after he cured himself of type 2 diabetes using the ‘paleo diet’ and sang its virtues on his blog.
As our colleagues at ANH-USA have pointed out, US dieticians are pushing hard for legislation that will make it illegal for anyone but themselves to provide dietary advice. Which is rich coming from a profession that has jumped enthusiastically into bed with companies producing some of the world’s least nutritious foods!
Meanwhile, over the pond in Europe, the Nutrition and Health Claims Regulation (NHCR; No. 1924/2006) will soon prevent anyone who doesn’t know any better from telling whether a Big Mac is healthier than broccoli. Or whether pure water is better for hydration than a Diet Coke. In fact, according to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), only 70 foods or ingredients have any health benefits at all.
So, using different means, the end result is the same as in the US: an enormous clampdown on freedom — of speech and choice — in healthcare.
We are losing our fundamental freedoms. Little by little, they’re being chipped away. Unless we work together and get proactive, we are going to wake up one day soon and find access to the natural healthcare we love and rely on is gone. This is not an exaggeration or a conspiracy theory: this is happening, now, right before our eyes! Organisations like ANH-Intl and ANH-USA are doing everything in our power to turn back the tide, but we need your help! Easy ways to get involved are:
